We just finished our first full week of the 2011 season with a home split of a doubleheader with Milan. It has been probably the most interesting opening week in the 4 seasons that I have been a coach for Post 285 Baseball. We currently sit at 9-4 as we have a couple more games to tune up for the Wheaton Tournament this weekend.
We have a young team that will get better as the season progresses. Our pitching should be a strength although it hasn't been as good as we would like so far. We need to get better at throwing strike one and then making hitters hit our pitches when we are ahead in the count.
Offensively, we've been ok, but we need to get better at letting the ball get deep and using the whole field instead of hitting on our front foot all of the time.
This weekend, I think the heat has taken it's toll on us a little bit. hopefully we'll get a little rest over the next couple of days and be full strength this weekend.
