As you could probably infer from my previous post, the Streaks were defeated by the Washington Panthers for the second time in just 10 days. This time by the score of 7-6. What makes this loss a little tougher to handle is that we jumped out to a 5-0 lead behind solid starting pitching by Austin Gernant and a huge base emptying triple by Zach McCrery. Reliever Colton Crain ran into the "meat" of the Panther lineup in the fifth and struggled through a walk and an error on the infield.
Chris Fields attempted to shut the door but not before Washington pushed across the go ahead run in the bottom of the 6th. We were not able to mount a threat in the top of the seventh. The Streaks move their record to 3-2 with both losses coming to Washington.A bigger lesson is to be learned from this game. It was again demonstrated what our most glaring weakness as a team is. We had multiple errors again and a couple of mental defensive and base running lapses. A good team will take advantages of those kinds of mistakes and Washington did that. It is early, and the "panic button" is not being pushed...but it is my hope that our guys understand what needs to be done to get better. The great thing about baseball is that we get to go right back out there the next day and compete again.
