Sophs get to play and beat Mercer County

After only playing one game over the previous 14 days, we finally got to play last night against Mercer County. It was the first time that I had witnessed a baseball game in Aledo and I was impressed by the quality of their field that allowed us to get the 5-3 victory in despite all of the rain that we have had lately.

Ryan Carl got the start and worked 4 scoreless innings for the win. Drew Nall led us offensively going 1-3 with a sacrifice fly and a homerun. Drake Sykes and Colby Smith each were 1-1 with doubles. Chans Sugden pitched a scoreless 7th inning for the save.

We only had 7 hits last night and we had far too many fly ball outs. We need to make our opponents work to get us out instead of just catching popups all night if we are going to beat good teams. It was good to play again and I'm hoping that we can continue the momentum 10:00 am Saturday @ Rock Island.
