Streaks beat Alleman at Monmouth College

On a fantastic day of weather, the Silver Streaks defeated Rock Island Alleman at Monmouth College by a score of 6-1.

Today we were the beneficiary of fantastic pitching performances by Austin Gernant, Timmy Rossell, and, getting his first action of the year, Rebel Schott.  These three guys threw very well...just giving up one run on the day.
Most importantly, the Streaks played error-free baseball today.  Defensively, we looked as good as we have all year long.  I thought we made almost every play possible out there today.  Brock Bush made a nice diving stop at first and Logan Scott and Andrew Steck made some nice plays in the outfield.  Chris Fields was also perfect on four chances at third base.  When we play like that behind our pitchers, we are going to be pretty tough to beat.
Offensively, it took a while again for us to get going.  We scored early in the first but were shut down until the sixth when a Chris Fields walk got us going.  I hope our guys understand the significance of a base on balls.  Tonight it proved to be huge as the walk was followed by hits from Seth Morling, Andrew Steck, Dalton Davis, and Zack McCrery.  Andrew again recovered from his struggles at the plate over the weekend to hit a towering home run over the left field fence.
There is some work going on at Sundberg Field, so the next few days of practice will be interesting.  The Streaks will return to action on Friday at Metamora and then again on Saturday for a double header at Quincy.  We had a great following of fans today.  I know the kids appreciate it and we as coaches do as well.  Thank you and see you at Metamora.
