Streaks "tripped up" at Metamora

The Streaks travelled to Metamora on Tuesday and were defeated by the score of 5-4.  The loss put an end to a 12 game winning streak and moves Galesburg's record to 15-3.

Offensively, there is not too much to talk about.  Dalton Davis started the game with a lead off triple and later scored on a Zach McCrery RBI.  Brock Bush had a home run and Andrew Steck also had an RBI.  McCrery tallied the other RBI of the game.  The Streaks were tied up for most of the game by yet another lefthander that stayed soft and away most of the game.
We used five different pitchers in the game in an effort to get our guys some mound work.  In all, our pitching was very solid with just a couple mistakes up in the zone that resulted in three Metamora home runs on a windswept day.  We made two infield errors as well that resulted in one unearned run.
It has been awhile since I have had to write after a loss.  It is, of course, not a great feeling.  One of the many lessons in this loss is that on any given day we can be beat.  If we have an off day in late May, our season will be over.  In my opinion, a team of our stature should be able to make adjustments offensively against the pitching that we saw tonight.  I hope our kids would agree that there were way too many wasted at-bats.
More importantly, it seemed that we were a little dis-interested  in the beginning of the game.  Good teams...ranked teams...do not show up to games not ready to play.  If we are as good as we all know we can be, then this problem has to be fixed.  On a team loaded with Senior players, we as coaches, are looking for one or two that will take charge and lead vocally and by example.
Our guys will get this figured out...they are too good not to.  The game of baseball allows for another chance in a short period of time.  I hope we all take some time to figure out what we need to do to get better the next time out.  I am sure we will.
