Galesburg defeats Peoria Notre Dame

On a beautiful May evening, Galesburg got by Notre Dame by a score of 12-3.  Austin Gernant got the victory while the Streaks ran their record to 24-6.  The victory was not without its problems though...

Defense, Defense, Defense.   As a staff we are still very concerned about making plays defensively.  Lately, it seems we are making mistakes that, frankly, just shouldn't happen to a good ball club in the middle of May.  Errors will happen...it happens to the best players in the world, but what I am most concerned with is the mental errors and the frequency of them.  Statistics reported by the MLB say that the average error costs a pitcher an additional 7 pitches.  Now, just taking last night for example, our four errors (statistically speaking) cost our pitcher 28 additional pitches.  Now combing those 4 with the 3 from yesterday, and the 4 from our last game against PND and add up the pitches and...you get the drift.  We MUST become more consistent handling the baseball.  If we don't, it will certainly cost us a the most inopportune time.  Our guys know this, and I hope they are willing to continue to work to get better.  That is all anyone can ask.

On a positive note, the bats are surely benefiting from constant game reps.  Milli is on fire right now, Zack and Chad seem to be coming out of it a little and guys like Dalton and Seth have remained pretty consistent.  Speaking of consistent, no other word can be used to better describe our pitching.  It has, and will remain, our biggest asset.  They keep us in games, which is what a good staff does.

Hope to see you all at the banquet tonight.  The Streaks look to get a little revenge against Moline on Thursday and the Streaks Classic starts Friday.  What a busy week.

Go Streaks!
