Tough night for the Streaks

On an afternoon where not much seemed to go right, from the weather to our play, the Streaks dropped a non-conference game with U.T. by the score of 4-1.

Our offensive woes continued.  While we managed more than one hit in this game we still only recorded one run.  We faced off against a freshman pitcher from U.T. who was able to scatter the Galesburg hits and strand a multitude of runners through his five innings of work.  The bats will go cold once in a while but our recent offensive production (or lack thereof) is definitely concerning.  We won't hit the panic button yet...and, on a positive note, many of the Streaks immediately got off the bus when they got home and went straight to the field as I threw some bp.  As long as they are willing to try to get better, then there is hope.
Defensively, for 5 innings the Streaks looked good.  But you can't just play solid defense part of the time.  U.T. took advantage of the Galesburg errors to record 3 unearned runs of their four total.  Obviously, if we aren't hitting and we aren't fielding, it will be tough to win games.
The bright spot of the night again was our pitching.  Austin Gernant did not deserve to lose.  We are so consistent on the mound and it was truly the case again tonight.
We are struggling and it would be very easy for things to start to unravel.  Again, we look to some senior leadership to keep this from happening.  We are still 19-4...many would love to be in our situation.  However, I hope our guys realize that we can be beat on any given night.  The right attitude and constant effort are REQUIREMENTS to play this game well...not things a good team chooses to do only on certain days.  For that matter, its a great life lesson as well.
Back to work tomorrow and to Alleman on Saturday.  Go Streaks!
