Varsity earns the sweep at Alleman

It was an absolutely perfect day for baseball!  And, the performance of  the Streaks on the baseball field matched the quality of the day in general as Galesburg defeated Alleman by scores of 14-2 and 10-5.
If I were to specifically talk about all the performances on Saturday, I would be writing for a long time.  The Streaks pounded out 31 hits, scored 24 runs, struck out 11 batters, and walked only five on the double header.  What was most important was that we seemed to break out of an offensive funk that we have been in for a little while.  It will be vital that we maintain our stride offensively if we are to score against Moline's hard throwing hurlers.

In summary, the Streaks executed what needed to be done on Saturday.  We have swept through the conference with the all important and rescheduled double header with Moline looming.  Our guys knew what was at stake and they played like the team we all know they can be.  They have put themselves in a great position to add to their many accomplishments.  On Thursday, the Streaks have a chance to win an outright conference title...something the paper said they have not done since 1993.  This is, of course, a major goal of our team but not the only thing we want to accomplish.  As coaches, we hope the guys realize the importance of the date coming up, but also understand that it is only one part of our collective goals.  The most important part of this is that our guys have put a stamp on our program and they can make it permanent with victories on Thursday.  I wasn't here the last time Galesburg was able to add to the big sign above our concession stand...but it is great to see our guys have this opportunity.  No matter what, it will be a great experience for our Streaks, and one that can only help us accomplish the bigger goals at the end of the year.
I hope the town comes out in support of our baseball team.  It doesn't get any better.  Two twenty-win teams going at it for the conference title.  Tell your friends to come out to Sundberg Field...I just have a feeling our guys won't disappoint.  Go Streaks!
